The GEOCOUNTS Key is a unique ID issued to vendors to certify that they are correctly implementing the GEOCOUNTS Raw Count Format. It is not a file tampering security and content validation tool (see File Checksum) but a method to protect the format through trust and verification.
How the GK protects the GEOCOUNTS Raw Count format
The GK protects the format through trust and verification by ensuring that:
- If a client encounters a file containing a GK which does not match the registration details on the Raw Count Format Validator page , it is untrusted. Untrusted data is not supported in GEOCOUNTS or Traffic Server, and also cannot be guaranteed to work on any other software implementing the standard GEOCOUNTS Raw Count Format.
- If the system does not produce a compatible format, and the vendor is unwilling or unable to correct it after a reasonable amount of time, the key will be revoked.
